When Is Tree Felling Necessary?
Removing a tree is not always the right answer, and our arborists will always consider whether work short of felling could resolve the problem. However, felling is sometimes the most appropriate course of action when a tree:
- Is dead, dying or in advanced structural decline
- Poses a risk to people, buildings or infrastructure
- Has been irreparably damaged by storm, disease or pest
- Is in a location that makes ongoing management impractical
- Needs to be removed as part of a construction or landscaping project
Where a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or conservation area designation applies, consent from the local planning authority will be required before any felling takes place. Our team can advise you on this as part of an initial site visit.
Straightforward Felling and Sectional Dismantling
Not every tree can be felled in a single operation. Where space is restricted — close to buildings, boundary fences or overhead cables — sectional dismantling is the safer approach. This involves removing the tree in manageable sections from the top down, often using ropes and rigging to control the descent of each piece.
Arbortech is equipped and experienced for both approaches. All work is carried out in accordance with BS 3998 and full public liability insurance is held. We are approved contractors for Somerset County Council and the Duchy of Cornwall.
